Numbers Circuit Training

I have a really good time with my year 1 pupils this week. They still learning numbers from 1 to 10. I focus on writing how to spell the numbers this week. I prepared an active activity that will involve everyone in the class. I called it as "Number Circuit Training".

It does not take a lot of effort and materials to do this activity but it will create an active surroundings in the classroom. I need a plain paper and write ot the way to spell the numbers in the middle of the paper. One number will be written on one plain paper. So, to write from 1 to 10 you will need 10 papers.

Then, as my pupils did not have colour pencils, I brought with me the colour pencils to give to them to use at the moment. I grouped my pupils into 10 groups. I put the paper that I have write the number before in 10 stations and also placed the pupils in each tables. I blow the wisel and the pupils started to write down the numbers on the papers. I encouraged them to write as much as they can in some period of time before i blow the wisel again. After like 2 to 3 minutes, I blow the wisel again and then the pupils change the place and the have the chance to go and write another numbers.

For me, by doing this activity, I can get a picture of the ability of my pupils on their writing skills. I found that some of my pupils (about 5 of them) are very good in writing the numbers. I think it is beacsue these kids were in pre school last year.

However, there are still some pupils struggle a lot to copy and write the numbers. I need to hold their hand and help them to hold the pencil and move the hand to make the letter. It is good for me to know this because it will help me later.

The best part was to see all the pupils were so excited to try doing the activity and write down on the paper. I have fun and of course my pupils too. I pasted the work on the wall after the activity finish. I save my time to do or buy poster to make this class full with displays. ;)

p/s: A long week...but it's already end :)

play with music instruments

I think the class with my year 1 today is so nice. We used the music instruments to count from 1 to 10. although the activity was so simple, but we all enjoy it a lot (teacher enjoys it, pupils enjoy it too).
I'm not good in playing all of that instruments but I just want to create a new learning experience for these kids. Most of all, this is not the class music but it was a mathematics class. So, how the sound we made is not really important as long as the learning objective is achieved.
At the first time, I showed the pupils how to play the instruments while they were singing a song about counting their fingers (in previous entry). After that I let my pupils to play the instruments and then the rest will sing the song. I used 6 instruments to make more pupils can play the i nstruments. They also take turn. It was so great!
While we were singing, I focused to the pronounciation of the numbers and most of the pupils do not have problems to say them correctly. The things that makes e happy was when I saw the shy pupils also take part willingly and smiling while doing the activity. What a great time!
p/s: of course I will use it again next time :D

Miss u Miss me :P

I was so busy giving advise and talked to year 6 pupils regarding their attitude towards the UPSR examination. I really want them to be serious with the study because I want to see a good achievement for them in all the subjects. While I was busy talking and talking (berleter is in BM) hahaha, suddenly I saw some pupils was running not really far from my class. They keep running here and there and sometimes I saw them hiding behind the fance.

Oh, it was Shamshira the year one girl and her friend. They were trying to see what ahppening in the pre-school. I bet they miss the pre-school so much. Must be they have a lot of fun there last year. So cute! I just smiling when I saw that happened. It just happened to the year 1 last year 2 which I did not teach this year. Miss to teach them. :D

the new batch of year 1 + let's play a bit :D

Oh oh...it's already the second week of 2011 school day. I did not tell anything about the new pupils in year 1 yet. :D hehehe...you really need to come and see these pupils. They are so cute and so nice! hahaha...

So, as usual year 1 pupils will need some time to feel really comfortable in the class. I can see some of them are still nervous. you can see it when u see their eyes. Someof them still having difficulties to understand malay language. However there were also some pupils that looks so comfortable and so brave in the class especially to those who were dong pre-school in this school before. They know me a little bit as I always go to pre school class last year.

They already introduced themselves to me in the previous class, and I also had do the same. So, today I started to teach a bit today. I'm not going to be too serious yet because I don't want them to get shocked with mathematics so I decided to just start the teaching and learning today with play and fun activities. (I think it's fun...hehe)

My aim for today is more on to see the knowledge on numbers to all of these year 1 pupils. I wanted to get a picture of their knowledge on Mathematicsso that in the next class I know where to start.

I give the pupils the colourful balls (green, yellow, red and blue) and two empty boxes. I put them in group so that it will be easier for me to observe them. i just wanted to see thse pupils can understand my instructions or not. I asked them to put the balls in the boxes using the words "more than" and "less than". One box will only contain one colour ball in it but the quatity is depends on the pupils. For example, " Can you show me the red balls "more than" the yellow balls?

I observed that some pupils really can understand what I asked them to do. But a lot of them still have difficulties. More than that, the pupils that can understand also can answer my questions when I approached their group. So impressing! Intan, can even do it without any mistakes at all. :D What a good start! :D

After finish this activity, I teach a number song to them. The song is about counting the fingers from 1 to ten. I make the lyrics myself but I use the melody from an old song (P. Ramlee's song called tanya sama hati). i think they like it ...

Mari sama-sama
Kita kira jari
dari hujung kanan
ke hujung kiri

satu, dua, tiga,
empat, lima, enam,
tujuh, lapan, sembilan,
juga sepuluh
p/s: I saw year 2 pupils hide behind the door to see year 1 class which is their class last year...hehe...miss to teach them :P

I close my eyes and I pray

I close my eyes and I pray
My heart will be honest
My intention will not change
I close my eyes and I pray
My heart will stay strong
My strength will wipe away my tears
I close my eyes and I pray
All the things that make me sad
please go away
I close my eyes and I pray
I am walking in the right way
Searhing the answer
Moving towards the light
I close my eyes and I pray
Bad things just motivations
to move forward, to learn
I close my eyes and I pray
I will not give up
Although I always lose or fall down
I open my eyes and I see
All the things are still the same as before
but deep in my heart
I know I can always
close my eyes and pray

One way to decorate your board :D

Today I just want to share one way to decorate the announcement board in an easy and simple way. maybe you have the other easy way to do it but this is just a share of my idea to do it. It looks nice and it also will involve your pupils in the classroom.

This activity will not take a long time and it will finish about 15 minutes if you ready with all the materials. First, you need to prepare sugar papers (I prefer black), colourful A4 papers, round shape, scissors and glues.
After that, I distributed the A$ papers to all of my pupils one each with different colours. I asked them to scatch the round shape on the papers and then cut it out. While they were busy scatched the shape, i covered the board with the black sugar paper.

After they finished cut the shape and I finished cover the board with the sugar paper, it is time to make the boarder. i asked the pupils to glue the shapes to the board and they must make sure that the shape with the same colour will not be next to each other. I let them do it by their own and left them to do the work. after 10 minutes, they come to see me in the teacher's room to tell me that they already done it :D SO fast! And it looks beautiful now :D
p/s: second year is challenging than the first year :D I can feel it!

1st day = a bit blur

Oh..I don't know why and what happened to me today. I felt a bit blur with the first day of my ysecond year of teaching in Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Kenang. I feel like I'm the one who is just enter the school like the year 1 pupils. So awkward~

I went to class 6 Melur because I'm their class teacher this year. As I was a bit blur, so I just went there and just smile to the pupils in the class. Oh, I forgot to tell you that the assembly had been cancelled today because it was raining this morning. I sit in front of the class and just see all my pupils in front of me. They just smiling back at me with their cute shy faces,:P some of them tried to hide their face behind their bags.

I took some time and then started to talk to them. I know these pupils quite well because I teach them last year. 6 Melur consist of 19 pupils with 8 of them are boys and 11 are girls. This is the second class of year 6. 6 Melati is the first class of year 6 in this school. They were divided into two classes to make the class more comfortable and convenient to learn.

I know why I was a bit blurry today! I think too much about the other things that not related to my class. haha...I really need to figure out the way from doing this again. I need to learn to divide my work as soon as possible. And I also need to learn to sort my work life with my other life :P its important! don't let the work take over the other life and dont let the other life take over my work life! Go for it Apis!

p/s: planning to decorate class....

change my mind... 2011... welcome Mr!

Happy New Year 2011 to all :) Ok, stop talking about new year for a while. I was in the mood to talk about my plan in this new year actually but suddenly something happened to me a few hours before that makes my mood change! and now its a bit of angry plus sad plus dissappointed plus upset!

I was driving to Perak this afternnon. I was so happy and glad to think about the first day of the school tomorow (not thinking about the work that I did not do yet :P ). While listening to the radio and follow to sing the song played slowly (not really slow actually) I keep focus my eyes to the road. Try to drive safely...

Suddenly, when I passed by Taiping I heard noises came from the back. It were so loud. OMG! So many motorcycles behind me. They not the usual motorcyclists but they are "Mat Rempit" = people like to do dangerous skills on the road on their motorcycle. The problem is that the road is so busy with cars but they ignored it and still want to show off on the road. I can't believed my eyes to see how rude they are. They not respect the other road users at all! What did they think? They don't have mind to think? Do you think people really respect you by seeing your Superman skills on that motorcycle? Egh... (want to vomit now)

I think they did not feel grateful with the life that they have. They did not even think that many people do many things to get their life back but these people just want to waste their only one life on the road. Yeah, maybe nothing happened to them this afternoon but how about if they fell on the road for real. The problem is that they not just risking their life but also will involved the other road users.

Although I know that it is not appropriate for me to take the picture of them while driving, but because of not only one motorcycle but quite a few like 6 to 10 motorcycles passed by my car with that action, I slow down my car and snap a picture so that I have a prove of their attitude! hahaha...dont try this at home (same to what I did - use the camera while driving-dont try this at home too-)

It's only 2 days of 2011 and I already see this again. Egh...please respect other people life if you don't want to appreciate your life. Don't let other peoples lost their precious life just because of your rude behaviour. You only have one life...let's appreciate it!

Tomorow the school will start again. Welcome to second year of teaching :) really hope it will bring happiness and joy. I'm so excited to see my pupils and excited to wear new outfit...hahaha... but still don't like to think about the filing things. egh...really need to learn to do that! Go Apis! Let's start tomorow with great feelings!

p/s: What happened to the Mathematics Tools Kit that I gave to year 5 pupils last year let's find out :P
